Job Overview

The Marine Environmental Compliance Officer will lead the monitoring, assessment, and enforcement of marine environmental regulations within the Red Sea coastal zone. Reporting to the Head of Marine Conservation, the officer will ensure that all activities, including tourism, fisheries, and coastal development, comply with national and international standards. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections of marine activities, including diving operations, coastal construction, and fishing practices, to verify compliance with Egyptian environmental legislation and UNESCO guidelines.
• Develop and update compliance monitoring frameworks, checklists, and reporting tools tailored to the unique challenges of the Red Sea ecosystem.
• Collaborate with local authorities, NGOs, and community groups to promote best practices and raise awareness about marine protection.
• Prepare detailed compliance reports, risk assessments, and corrective action plans for senior management and governmental agencies.
• Lead investigations of reported violations, coordinate enforcement actions, and recommend penalties or remediation measures.
• Support the design and implementation of marine protected areas, ensuring that regulatory requirements are integrated from the planning stage.
• Provide technical guidance and training to staff, partners, and stakeholders on environmental standards and monitoring techniques.
• Stay current with international conventions such as MARPOL, UNCLOS, and the Convention on Biological Diversity, applying relevant provisions to local contexts.

Required Skills

• Strong knowledge of Egyptian environmental law, marine policy, and international conservation frameworks.
• Proficiency in GIS, remote sensing, and data analysis tools for marine monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Ability to build collaborative relationships with government agencies, industry representatives, and local communities.
• Analytical thinking, problem‑solving aptitude, and attention to detail.
• Project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
• Field work competence, including diving certification (optional but advantageous).

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Oceanography, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., Certified Environmental Professional, Marine Conservation Specialist) will be given priority.

Experience

Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience in environmental compliance, marine conservation, or related fields. Experience working with governmental regulators, international NGOs, or in a multicultural setting is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of 120,000 – 180,000 SSP per annum, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be provided.
