Job Overview
This role involves digitizing, cataloging, and managing cultural heritage data to preserve Egypt’s historical assets for future generations. The Digital Archivist will work on projects that combine archaeological research with cutting-edge digital tools, ensuring accessibility and sustainability of cultural records. The position is ideal for professionals passionate about Egypt’s rich history and skilled in digital preservation techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Digitize and archive historical documents, photographs, and artifacts using specialized software.
- Develop metadata standards and taxonomy for cultural heritage datasets.
- Collaborate with archaeologists and historians to document excavation findings.
- Implement cloud-based storage solutions for secure data management.
- Conduct training sessions for local teams on digital archiving best practices.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in digital archiving tools (e.g., Archivists’ Toolkit, ArchiScript).
- Experience with GIS mapping for cultural site documentation.
- Strong understanding of metadata frameworks (Dublin Core, METS/ALTO).
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams with archaeologists and IT specialists.
- Fluency in English and Arabic is a plus.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Digital Archiving, Information Technology, or Cultural Heritage Management. Advanced degrees in Egyptology or Archaeology are advantageous.
Experience
3-5 years of experience in digital archiving, preferably in cultural heritage or museum settings. Project management experience in archaeological documentation is preferred.
Salary
150,000 – 250,000 SSP per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
