Job Overview

The Marine Biology Research Coordinator will lead field and laboratory investigations aimed at understanding the health of marine ecosystems along Egypt’s Mediterranean coast. Reporting to the Regional Conservation Manager, the coordinator will design research protocols, manage data collection, and collaborate with academic institutions, NGOs, and government bodies. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement research methodologies for assessing marine biodiversity, water quality, and habitat integrity.
• Coordinate field surveys, including snorkeling, scuba diving, and remote sensing, ensuring safety and data accuracy.
• Manage laboratory analysis of samples (e.g., plankton, sediment, genetic material) using state‑of‑the‑art techniques.
• Maintain comprehensive databases, perform statistical analyses, and produce scientific reports for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with local fishermen, schools, and community groups to integrate traditional knowledge into research design.
• Present findings at national and international conferences, workshops, and policy briefings.
• Assist in grant writing, budgeting, and resource allocation for research projects.
• Support the development of educational materials and outreach campaigns that promote marine stewardship.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in marine sampling equipment, GIS mapping, and statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS).
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
• Ability to work independently and lead multidisciplinary teams in challenging field conditions.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and community‑based conservation initiatives.

Education

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) are highly desirable and will be considered an asset for complex research projects.

Experience

Candidates should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience conducting marine research, preferably in the Mediterranean or similar coastal environments. Prior experience with NGOs, governmental agencies, or academic research groups is advantageous.

Salary
