Job Overview

The Geotechnical Engineer will be responsible for evaluating ground conditions, designing support systems, and providing technical guidance for mining operations at the Sohag site. Working closely with the mine planning, drilling, and safety teams, the engineer will conduct site investigations, interpret data, and develop models that inform safe and cost‑effective extraction strategies. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations, including drilling, sampling, and laboratory testing.
  • Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to design appropriate ground support and slope stability solutions.
  • Develop and maintain geotechnical models using industry‑standard software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC).
  • Collaborate with mine planners to integrate geotechnical inputs into mine design and scheduling.
  • Provide technical recommendations for excavation, blasting, and waste rock management.
  • Monitor and assess ground behavior during operations, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, technical drawings, and documentation for internal and regulatory review.
  • Ensure all activities comply with Egyptian mining regulations and Rio Tinto’s safety standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments, hazard identification, and emergency response planning.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer across the site.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles, rock mechanics, and soil behavior.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, FLAC, GeoStudio).

Education

Salary
