Job Overview
The Chemical Process Engineer will join the Process Engineering team at BASF Egypt’s El Minya plant, playing a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and scaling chemical processes that produce high‑performance materials for a variety of industries. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize chemical process designs for new and existing products, ensuring efficiency, safety, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Conduct pilot‑scale trials, analyze data, and translate findings into scalable production protocols.
- Collaborate with R&D, Production, and Quality Assurance teams to implement process improvements and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Prepare technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, heat and material balances, and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance yield, reduce waste, and lower energy consumption.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations, BASF global standards, and environmental health and safety (EHS) policies.
- Participate in risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits to maintain a safe working environment.
- Support the training of production operators and junior engineers on process fundamentals and best practices.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of chemical engineering principles, process simulation tools (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD), and unit operations.
- Proficiency in data analysis, statistical methods, and problem‑solving techniques.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with EHS regulations and a proactive safety mindset.
- Fluency in English; Arabic language skills are an advantage.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, PMP) are considered a strong plus and demonstrate a commitment to professional development.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience in process engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or related manufacturing sectors. Experience with large‑scale production, pilot plant operations, and process scale‑up is highly desirable.
