Job Overview

The Mining Operations Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs across Rio Tinto’s El Minya mining complex. Reporting directly to the Regional Safety Director, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Egyptian labor regulations, international safety standards such as ISO 45001, and Rio Tinto’s internal safety policies. The role involves close collaboration with engineering, operations, and human resources teams to embed safety into every facet of daily work, from drilling and blasting to ore processing and transportation. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive safety management systems tailored to mining operations in El Minya.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard analyses, and safety audits to identify and mitigate potential dangers.
  • Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide safety training, coaching, and mentorship to all levels of staff, including contractors and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with Egyptian Ministry of Manpower regulations, ISO 45001, and Rio Tinto’s Global Safety Standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to integrate safety considerations into project design and operational procedures.
  • Prepare and present safety performance reports to senior management and external regulators.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using data‑driven metrics and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Deep knowledge of mining safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary safety programs in a high‑risk environment.
  • Strong analytical skills for risk assessment, incident investigation, and performance reporting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and spoken.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or NEBOSH International General Certificate are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.

Experience

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in safety management within the mining sector, preferably in open‑pit or underground operations. Demonstrated success in reducing Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) and implementing robust safety cultures is essential.

Salary
