Job Overview
The Smart Grid Cybersecurity Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of security controls for GE’s smart grid platforms deployed across Egypt. This position bridges the gap between traditional power engineering and modern cyber defense, ensuring that critical grid assets are protected against evolving threats. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement cybersecurity strategies tailored to smart grid environments, including network segmentation, encryption, and intrusion detection.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and vulnerability scans on SCADA, RTU, and IoT devices within the grid.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate security controls without compromising grid performance or reliability.
- Monitor security events using SIEM tools, analyze alerts, and coordinate incident response activities.
- Create and maintain security policies, standards, and procedures aligned with international frameworks such as IEC 62443 and NIST.
- Provide technical guidance and training to grid operators and IT staff on best practices for cyber hygiene.
- Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory reporting for the Egyptian energy sector.
- Stay current with emerging threats, zero‑day exploits, and industry trends to continuously improve the security posture.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of industrial control system (ICS) security, including protocols like Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.
- Hands‑on experience with firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and endpoint protection solutions.
- Proficiency in security monitoring platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar) and incident response workflows.
- Understanding of cloud security concepts, especially for platforms used in smart grid analytics.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure during cyber incidents.
- Effective communication skills to translate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GICSP, or IEC 62443 Practitioner are highly desirable.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in industrial cybersecurity will be considered an advantage.
Experience
